JOHNNY RINGO DAYS
Short History of Ringo
It all started on May 3rd, 1850 in a small town boarding house in Clay Township Wayne County
Indiana the town would die in a few years a town named Washington. The Town Later was renamed
Greens Fork. His parents was Martin and Mary (Peters) Ringo they  was married in Liberty Missouri
on Sept. 4th, 1848 being  the oldest of 5 with three sisters and one brother. At four years old he
watched the first train stop at the new station while going through dropping off people from
Richmond. It was a big day everyone from miles around came to watch. Things was changing
Washington town may have died but Greens Fork would prosper for many years. In 1856 do to his
Family being from Missouri and the ever upcoming Vigilante activity in Indiana at the time it was
decided best for the family to leave Indiana. Johnny was 6 years old when they left. They moved in
wagon to Gallatin where they worked on a farm owned by his father. The next 6 years was bad years
for them crops was bad.

During this time he attended schooling and started reading anything he could find to read and
became very word minded and tried to prefect all the words he was learning. He carried a book with
him every where he went.  Johnny tried to at least read a chapter a day. Then in May of 1864 they
packed up and headed for California. His father was killed by accident on the way leaving Johnny
with the memory's and dist rant . Then in the fall of 1870 johnny decided to go on his own and left
Calif. He traveled around until 1873  when he ended up in Texas. Johnny ended up in the mason
county wars also known as the Hoodoo wars.

He spent two years in a Texas prison at which time he met John Wesley Hardin. When Johnny was
released he went to Llano County Texas where he was elected Constable. Within a couple years
Johnny was in tombstone with the Clantons. The rest is History.
